After six years of military service I left as a surveyor and continued my education as a civil engineer, serving in local government for a further ten years.
Moving from London to my current home in Wiltshire I worked in various industries, and served as a member of Wiltshire Special Constabulary for 17 years, and eventually retired from paid work at 67 years of age.
I then served as chairman of my parish council for six years, after which I was elected to the position of Governor, representing the electorate of South Wiltshire Rural, which I currently hold.
