Useful Information About Your Appointment(s)

For information on getting to the hospital, please visit the following page: Coming Into Our Hospital Ìý

Typical care pathway:ÌýÌý

  • If you have any concerns, you should initially speak to your GP. If they think further investigations are needed then they will refer you to the hospital for further tests.ÌýÌý

Ìý

  • After being referred by your GP, you will initially be seen by a consultant who will assess the lesion. They may use a magnifying device (dermatoscope) that lets them look at the skin more closely.ÌýÌý

Ìý

  • The consultant may then put you on a waiting list to have the lesion biopsied to confirm the diagnosis. This is when a small area of affected skin is surgically removed, so it can be tested in a laboratory – this is known as an excision biopsy. Visit our page - ‘tests/investigations which may take place’ for more information.ÌýÌý

Ìý

  • If it is determined you have a skin cancer, then the course of treatment chosen, will depend on various circumstances (including skin cancer type/stage). SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Hospital offers surgery to treat skin cancer. You may be referred to other hospitals to discuss and undergo further treatment if this is necessary. Please visit our ‘treatment options’ information page, for more information.ÌýÌý

Ìý

  • Further to your treatment, you will be placed on a follow up pathway. For more information visit ‘ongoing care’. Ìý
