Charitable donations
The Pembroke Unit is supported by the managed under the umbrella of the We are fortunate that this Fund is well supported by work and donations from our staff, patients and the Salisbury Community. The Fund is managed by a team of doctors, nurses and patients involved with the unit and all donations to the Fund go directly to support patient care on the Unit. The Fund is not used for standard NHS care but goes to provide a range of services 'over and above' standard care to make our patient's experience of living with blood diseases and cancer more comfortable
2011 has been an extraordinary year for the Fund. We knew that becoming "Charity of the Year" would bring exciting new opportunities but had not anticipated quite how much of a boost it would give to our development in times of such financial hardship generally for the NHS. In addition to all we have achieved working with Spire FM we have been successful in gaining a substantial grant from the Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fund and have also been given new sets of "cold caps" by to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy.
One of the most exciting aspects of all this fund-raising work has been the commitment of our staff and patients who have shown immense energy and innovation in their fundraising efforts. Some have cycled to Paris for us, others have run marathons and many have held events such as fashion shows, bingo nights and pub quizes. Our support has come from people of all ages including a very little girl who organised a coffee morning in memory of her daddy and another young boy who raised money riding many times around a park to help his granny.
What could you do to help us?
